checklist
Written by Merle McKenzie
Here are a few things you want to consider for the BOE.
Cash is king. Everything from speactator entrance fees, food sold at the Beast and CrossFit gear will be available but you will need to pay in cash. There is no ATM on site but there are some on the rte 17 south road to the Beast.
It mid fall in Connecticut and it's usually very cool in the morning and also early evening. Bring and extra layer or two for comfort.
Food, water and snacks wil lbe available to purchase but you are allowed to bring coolers as well in case you want something specific.
Durham is a rural town so there's not much in the way of chain restaurants but there are some smaller local ones on the strip.
A quick Google search will turn up lots of restaurants of al ltype within a 15 minute drive from the Beast.
There are plenty of bathrooms on site so we won't need porta potties and there are even a couple of showers for both men and women if you desire.
Campers are allowed on site at no additional fee but you cannot stay overnight.
Make sure you arrive in plenty of time to register. Friday night between 5-8 pm and early Saturday morning for late registration between 7 am and 7:45 am
The first wod briefing will happen around 8 am and then the first wod is slated to go off at 8:30 am so make sure you're there early to warm up.
We will release some of the wods The first Monday night before the event. Stay tuned!

a special thanks
Written by Merle McKenzie
There is a very long list of people and businesses that need to be warmly thanked for their assistance in making our event happen. From volunteers to judges, friends, other specialist competitions like the USAW and IKFF and also the greater CrossFit community. The list is longer than i could blog about here on this site. Each and every one of the people involved in this no matter how small the contribution will ultimately be key in running a spectacular, successful event.
We have many great sponsors ( we are always looking for more!) and we are extremely thankful for their participation in the 2011 Beast of the East. I do however need to point out contributions of 4 sponsors in particular that played a critical role in pulling this all together. They are Rogue Fitness, without them we would not have access to the worlds best fitness equipment for CrossFitters. Life as Rx, as our title sponsor they believed in our vision early on and will be providing all the great gear for our athletes, volunteers, judges and for sale to all the spectators. Concept 2, They have always been a huge component in the pursuit of elite fitness and are always there for our greater CrossFit community. SICFIT, they are a leader in media content for all things CrossFiit. They will be handling the filming and media for the Beast of the East. With their help we will gain international exposure and that will help make the BOE a world class event.
Thank you to everyone who will be on the grounds in Durham Ct for the Beast of the East!
We are still looking for great judges so if you would like to volunteer please register on the link provided at the top of the site.

sold out and Travis Bagent comes to the Beast
Written by Merle McKenzie
The Beast of the East is officially sold out. 200 individuals and 40 teams will be heading to Durham Ct for a Beastly 2 day competition in early October. With the registration first being opened up over a year ago it's hard to imagine that people are still contacting us to register. We truly are sorry that some of you cannot compete this year but we would love to have you come and spectate or possible even compete in the USAW weightlifting championship or the IKFF Kettlebell competition that will both be held at the Beast. The weekend promises to be nothing short of spectacular and you won't want to miss it.
a little side note here..When we announce the registration for the 2012 Beast of the East...don't wait so long this time!
Also, We are excited to announce that Travis Bagent (worlds best left handed arm wrestler and announcer for the CrossFit Games) and Peter Milano will be bringing the NAL Ultimate Arm Wrestling experience to the Beast this year as well. They have a spectator friendly format featuring one table where athletes start strapped in and another table where they begin match in the hook. This is a very exciting format to watch and eliminates a lot of the bullsh#t from some arm wrestling competitions.
8 weeks and counting!

IKFF East Coast Kettlebell Beast Competition

The Announcement…
Everyone involved with the Beast of the East Fitness Competition being held here in Connecticut October 8-9, 2011 is VERY excited about this new event! The event is The IKFF East Coast Kettlebell Beast that is now part of The Beast of the East Fitness Competition. The IKFF East Coast Kettlebell Beast will be a FULLY SANCTIONED IKFF Kettlebell Competition!
There are plenty more details to follow, but the competition will be open to men and women and there will be multiple weight classes and Kettlebell weights as per IKFF guidelines.

The Events…
Events will include the Kettlebell Snatch, Kettlebell Jerk, Kettlebell Long Cycle (Clean and Jerk) and Biathalon (Snatch and Jerk). Since most of us involved with The Beast of the East are a little crazy – it’s a CrossFit thing – there will also be some non-sanctioned events like a Turkish Get Up Competition and some others that will be open to anyone who wants to give them a shot – and sign the waiver

More Info to Come!
There is a lot more info to come in the next few days as the details get finalized. In the meantime, drop me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you’re interested in competing or just helping out at the competition. I’ll get you on the mailing list and we’ll get you registered as soon as the registration page is up!
